Burke W Jay WWII History
9 Dec 1944 This page is dedicated to my father-in-law, Burke W Jay, who served during WWII as a navigator on a B-17 bomber, and was shot down over Czechoslovakia on 9 Dec 1944. Burke was one of four crew members who survived - the other six were executed by the Nazis - and served out the remainder of the war as POWs in Stalag Luft 1, until being liberated by the Russians in May 1945. Thank you for your service. |
Who's Henry Goldner?
(1845-1925)
Chuck recently sent me a picture of an inscription on a pocket watch (click image to enlarge), which started me on the search to discover who was Henry Goldner.
Henry Goldner is the 2nd Great Grandfather of Dotty, Billy, Barbara & Charlie on their Mom's line; 3rd GGFather of Michael, Chris & Cody; 4th GGFather of Jaxon, Gunner & Sterling; and the father of the "Goldner Aunties". Henry and his wife, Louisa, had 11 children - one son and 10 daughters!!! He was an industrious man who owned his own company and rose in the ranks to that of a Prominent Philadelphian.

This is the story of our 8th Great-GrandParents, Thomas Hunt Sr and his wife, Cicely, who are among some of our family's original Puritan settlers, and a bit rebellious. In 1652 Thomas purchased and developed a little tract of land which he named Grove Farm, where Throggs Neck, New York is currently located. To read about their journey from New Haven, to Stamford, to Newtown and finally Grove Farm, click here.
